Toews, Kane Lead Blackhawks over Sharks
The Chicago Blackhawks have been on a roll against the NHL odds of late and it continued on Sunday night as they beat the San Jose Sharks 4-3 in OT. Patrick Kane continues to have a solid season as he notched his 21st goal of the year, which is second in the league, while in OT it was Jonathan Toews’ 11th goal of the year that won it for Chicago. Kane also had an assist in the win and leads the league in points with 50. Kane also recently made history as he became the first American-born player to score at least 20 goals in each of his first nine seasons. He just continues to rewrite the record books this year. How many more will fall before the end of it? We shall see.

Grabbing the win over the Sharks was Corey Crawford, who is on a roll, having won seven of his last eight starts. He has allowed a total of nine goals over that stretch and has three shutouts as well in the nine games. Crawford is now 19-10 with a 2.16 GAA on the year, while vs the Stars in his career he is 11-7 with a 2.67 GA vs them. The Blackhawks check in at 11th in the league in scoring, putting up 2.7 gpg, while also ranking 4th in power play conversions (22%). At the defensive end of the ice they are 9th in goals allowed (2.4 gpg) and 9th in penalty kill (82.3%).

Where Would the Stars Be Without Seguin & Benn
Jamie Benn that is. These two players have just been awesome this year and are the main reason that Dallas has the best record in the NHL and also the reason that they lead the league in scoring, putting up 3.4 gpg, while also leading the league in shots taken (32.2 spg) and they also come in at 3rd in power play conversions (22.7%). Jamie Benn comes in with 22 goals on the year, which leads the league, while his 44 points is tied with Tyler Seguin for second in the league. Speaking of Seguin, he has 18 goals on the year, which is 4th in the league. Jason Speeza has 12 goals and Patrick Sharp has 11, but no one else on the team has more than seven.

This team would be lost without the big two, especially since their play in goal has not been that strong. Sure Lehtonen has an 11-2 mark on the year, but with a rather high 2.54 GAA. Antti Niemi is 13-7 with a 2.47 GAA. Not great numbers and a reason why they need that strong offense to continue, especially from Seguin and Benn. Overall the Stars are 16th in the league in goals allowed, giving up 2.5 gpg, while allowing teams to convert on 20.2% of their power play chances, which is 20th in the league.

Trends
Chicago is:

38-17 in their last 55 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 situation

20-9 in their last 29 games playing on one day’s rest

Dallas is:

15-37 in their last 52 games playing on 0 days rest

1-4 in their last five vs. Western Conference

Betting Analysis
The Blackhawks have owned this series of late and they are in a great spot to keep it going as they come in with a day’s rest, while the Stars managed to win a grueling game in Minnesota last night and have to travel home for this one. Corey Crawford is also hot as he has three shutouts in his last nine starts and he should be able to slow down a tired Dallas offense. Situationally this is a good spot for the Blackhawks and they should take advantage with a big road win. Take Chicago as the NHL pick.
