SBR picks provides you with its 3 best NHL selections on Thursday. These include two money line selections and 1 total. Find out who we like in the games between Columbus/Washington, Chicago/Boston, and Los Angeles/Ottawa by reading our informative NHL betting preview article.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Washington Capitals 7:05 PM ET
After vastly underachieving fin their first quarter of the schedule, the Columbus Blue Jackets are finally starting to garner some momentum. They enter tonight on a 4-game winning streak, and have a red-hot goaltender. Sergei Bobrovsky started all 4-games during this current win streak, and posted a marvelous .948 save percentage while facing 135-shots on goal combined during that stretch. The Jackets last played on Tuesday, and skated away with a 3-2 home win over Metropolitan Division rival the Philadelphia Flyers. That result will be an integral part of my betting system on this game and that sports handicapping tool will add me in making one of my NHL picks today.

The Capitals return home for the first time since going perfect 3-0 on their recent road trip. My sports handicapping experiences have proven to me, teams returning home for the first time following a successful road trip of 3-games or more, are more times than not flat in that exact situation.

NHL Betting System
Any road team (Columbus) coming off a home win versus a team from within their own division, versus an opponent (Washington) coming off 2 or more road wins in a row, has seen that road team go 41-24 (63.1%) against the money line since 1996. That includes a stellar 29-10 (74.4%) over the past 5-seasons.

Free NHL Pick: Columbus +168 over Washington at 5Dimes

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Boston Bruins 7:05 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks have gone over the total in just 7 of their first 31-games (22.6%) this season. Chicago will start backup goaltender Scott Darling tonight. Darling has gone a stellar 4-1 in his 5-starts this season with a superb .939 save percentage.

The Boston Bruins have gone over the total in just 5 of their first 15-games (33.3%) at home this season. The Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask has been a major contributor to those low scoring games at home, going 9-4 in 13-starts, and posting a stellar .931 save percentage.

NHL Betting System
According to the NHL  betting odds at 5Dimes, the posted total in this game is 5.0.The Bruins are coming off a 5-2 road win at Arizona in their previous game. The Blackhawks were a 3-2 winner at New Jersey the last time they stepped onto the ice. The combination of those two results, and the posted total in this game, sets up a very profitable betting system that I will utilize to make one of my NHL picks today.

Any home team (Boston) with a total of 5.0 or less, coming off a road win by 2-goals or more, versus an opponent (Chicago) coming off a road 1-goal win, has seen that home team go under the total in 37 of those 52-games (71.2%) since 1996.

Free NHL Pick: Chicago/Boston to go under the total of 5.0

Los Angeles Kings vs. Ottawa Senators
The Ottawa Senators overcame a 3-0 deficit at home in their previous game, and skated away with a 4-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks. The defending Stanley Cup champion Kings have gone a dismal 3-9 against the money line on the road this season. They’re coming off a disappointing 1-0 road loss at Buffalo in their previous game. All of the above results fit into a winning money line betting system, and I certainly won’t ignore it when making my NHL picks for today.

Any team (Ottawa) coming off a home win in which they scored 4-goals or more, versus an opponent (Los Angeles) coming off a game in which both teams scored 1-goal or less, has seen that team go 61-33 (64.9%) against the money line since 1996.

Free NHL Pick: Ottawa +119 over Los Angeles
