NHL Betting: Avalanche vs Coyotes Picks
However, we’re all gamblers here, so let’s not pretend like we haven’t bet on chicken fighting, spelling bees or Little League World Series baseball before. That being the case, let’s take a look at this matchup and see if there’s an edge on either side.
Record: 143-160 (-544)
The Colorado Avalanche can win because…
Who wants to lay -160 with the Phoenix Coyotes? The Coyotes are coming off a 2-1 win over the San Jose Sharks but they are still a team that has dropped four of six against the NHL odds. They’ve cost bettors a lot of money recently – especially those who were thinking that the Coyotes would show a little urgency.
The Avs are still the worst team in the West but they’ve been competitive recently. They are 3-2-2 in their last seven, which isn’t great, but they are proving to be a little bit scrappy. Against a Coyotes team that just found out they’ll be missing the playoffs, that might be enough.
The Phoenix Coyotes can win because…
They completely dominate this series. The Coyotes are 9-0-2 in their last 11 home meetings with the Avs, which is reason enough to add them to your NHL picks. Goaltender Mike Smith is 8-1-1 with a 1.41 GAA against the Avalanche in his last and he shouldn’t have much trouble boosting those numbers on Friday. The Avs are the league’s worst road team at 3-16-4. They’ve lost 16 of their last 17 away from home. What else do you really need to know?
Outlook & Pick
The Avs are a horrible road team to begin with and they are just awful playing in Phoenix. That makes the -160 price tag on Phoenix more than fair. However, since I don’t lay that type of juice, Four of the last five meetings have gone under and I’ll bet on Smith and the Coyotes to lead this game under the number too.
