Can the Capitals come away with a win & secure home ice for playoffs 1st round? Will the Rangers put forth an honest effort despite having nothing to further gain? Get all the answers inside.

Division Rivals meet in Regular Season Finale
The Washington Capitals will host the New York Rangers on Saturday at 12:35 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at BetOnline, Washington is a -130 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. The Rangers have gone 2-1 versus Washington this season. These Metropolitan Division rivals haven’t gone over the total in their last fifteen encounters played at Washington.

Rangers Sights on Playoffs
The New York Rangers have already clinched the President’s Trophy, awarded to the team who accumulated the most points during the regular season. Along with attaining that impressive team accomplishment, they also assured themselves of being the #1 overall seed for the upcoming 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs. If the Rangers 3-0 home loss to Ottawa in their previous game is any indication, their focus at this point will be to finish the regular season unscathed by injuries. That 3-0 loss to Ottawa was the first time they had gone under the total in twelve games.

Capitals attempt to Secure Home Ice in Eastern Quarterfinal Series
The Washington Capitals enter today second in the Atlantic Division with a one point lead over the New York Islanders. With a win today, they’ll not only finish second in their division, but will also clinch the #4 overall seed in the Eastern Conference. The Capitals have played extremely well down the final stretch of the regular season, winning four in a row, six of the last seven, and ten of their previous thirteen games. Washington has gone under the total in each of their previous two games, and prior to those contests had gone over the number in five consecutive outings.

Final Analysis
Obviously the Capitals have more at stake regarding today’s game. Just because a team needs a game more doesn’t automatically assure them of a win. However, in this specific situation, and with all things considered, I’m going to side with the home team for one of my NHL picks on Saturday.
