Our resident NHL handicapping professional shares his two top totals of the night in this betting preview article. He’ll be discussing the games between Minnesota/Nashville and Los Angeles/Calgary.
Minnesota Wild vs. Nashville Predators 8:05 PM ET
According to the NHL betting odds. at Heritage, the posted total in this game today is 5.0. These Central Division rivals have seen just one of their previous six encounters stay under the total.
The Nashville Predators haven’t seen any of their previous five games overall stay under the total, and have gone over the number in each of the last three played at home. The Predators have scored three goals or more in their last five games, and have allowed three or more in six of their previous eight overall. Nashville has seen nineteen of twenty-nine games this season go over the total when facing an opponent with a winning percentage of better than .500. Pekka Rinne is slated to be in goal for the Predators tonight, and he’s compiled a terrible .860 save percentage during his previous four starts.
Although the Wild have been stellar defensively for the better part of this season, they possess the talent to play any style of game in which the opposition chooses. Considering that Nashville has shown a tendency to open things up and be involved in some high scoring affairs of late, I’m leaning toward this one playing on the high side of the number for one of my NHL picks on Thursday.
NHL Pick: Play on Minnesota and Nashville over 5.0 at Heritage.
Los Angeles Kings vs. Calgary Flames 9:05 PM ET
The NHL betting odds at Pinnacle indicates that the posted total in this game is 5.0. This will be the fifth meeting of the season between these Pacific Division rivals and only the second that will be played at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. The Flames have won three of the first four encounters, and the lone meeting in Calgary stayed under the total.
The Los Angeles Kings have seen just three of their previous fourteen games go over the total. Jonathan Quick is scheduled to be between the pipes tonight for the Kings, and he’s been sharp in his last three starts, compiling a stellar .938 save percentage.
The Calgary Flames have gone under the total in each of their last three games. Calgary has also seen five of their previous six games at home stay under the total. The veteran Jonas Hiller is slated to be in goal tonight for the Flames, and he’s posted a brilliant .938 save percentage in his last four starts.
I’m going to stay on the low side of the total in this game for one of my NHL picks on Thursday.
NHL Pick: Kings and Flames to go under the total of 5.0 at Pinnacle.
