Betting Lesson

With the NFL taking center stage today we must remain focused on the National Hockey League and our bankroll. Too many times bettors will lose discipline and use their NHL bankroll to bet the NFL. This is another important bankroll lesson. As much as we want to stay disciplined with the amounts played we also want not to cross bankrolls.

Its important to separate your money by sport. We don't want to use our hockey money to start betting College Basketball. That's a sure way to lose your profits. Good business people never take from one of their business's to prop up another. Success can only begin when you treat gambling like a business more than just a recreational activity.

Sunday's Trends & Best Value Bets

Home favorites continue to dominate the amount of tickets cashed as the overall record stands at 139-69-6-8 good for a 62.61%.  Home teams overall are asking at an even higher percentage as their record stands at 109-44-4-8 which is a solid 66.06%. As we scan the SBR approved sportsbooks we see there are a few legitimate odds value if you're looking to back the home team trend.  One is the Avalanche which we'll discuss in a bit with Winnipeg at -110 and Edmonton -110 being solid options that won't hurt your bankroll with a loss.

Puck-line bettors have found that getting the +1.5 goals has been profitable but there is almost always too high of a price to pay to bet this way. Underdogs are cashing at a 65.32% clip (145-77) with home dogs standing at a 38-18 mark good for a 67.86 win percentage.  I can't stress enough how silly of a bet these plays are.  Today your best option is the Montreal Canadiens +1.5 -203.  No, thank you. Too high of a price to lay if you're a responsible player.

The 'under' is still holding strong as they now stand at 107-92, 53.77%.  This is a much better play than puck-lines as most are offered at a reasonable price.  The Rangers, Oilers match-up may be an attractive option tonight for an 'under' play as the total sits at 5.5 shaded to the 'under' -115.

The Pick

Our game tonight sees the injury to Matt Duchene affecting public opinion as money is pouring in on the Boston Bruins. Duchene has concussion-like symptoms and is still questionable for tonight.  Boston aims to win their seventh in their last nine games but as the public drives this line down it makes sense to back the Avalanche who have four of their last five games against teams with a winning record.
