The Los Angeles Kings Can Win Because…
They’ll be refreshed after the break. If there’s one team that needed it more than anyone else, it was the Kings, who were sinking faster than the Titanic prior to the Olympics. The Kings won their final game before the break but had lost 16 of 21 prior to that. Now that they’ve had a few weeks to regroup, they should get back to being one of the better teams in the West.
Goaltender Jonathan Quick played fantastic for the Americans in Sochi and he is the heart and soul of the Kings. He should come back with a vengeance and lead this team down the home stretch. They’re worth a look as a road dog for your sports picks on Wednesday.
The Colorado Avalanche Can Win Because….
The Kings have been atrocious in 2013. As mentioned above, they’ve lost 16 of their last 22 games and can barely even score goals these days. They’ve scored just eight goals in their last eight games while getting blanked three times in that span. A break isn’t necessarily going to help them; they need some adding pieces on offense to help get things going.
Colorado has quietly come back to life after slumping in December. They lost nine of their first 13 games in December but won on New Year’s Eve and have put together a 14-5-1 run since. They are trending upward and are more worthy of adding to your NHL picks.
Outlook & Pick
It’s just hard to trust the Kings. Sure, they might be revived after the break but we can’t assume. All we know is that going into it, they were playing poorly and the Avs were playing great. That’s why I’ll take the Avs.
