Another important meeting between two western opponents!
Chicago Blackhawks vs. Calgary Flames
Saturday, February 15, 2020 – 10:00 PM EST
Chicago has come out of the All-Star Break ice cold. An opening overtime win against the Coyotes has been followed by five consecutive losses. They had two overtime losses to the Bruins and Wild, and have then been beaten severely through their first three games in Canada to the Oilers, Canucks, and Jets.
The Hawks have been waiting since Wednesday for Calgary to return from their road trip down the west coast. It was a good circuit for the Flames who won three of four dominantly, scoring six goals against the Canucks, Sharks, and Ducks.
Coming in to face the Hawks who have been off for three days in the middle of a trip presents an interesting scheduling spot. Additionally, the Flames have been without their star defencemen, and captain, Mark Giordano through this patch of success as well as another starting defencemen, Travis Hamonic, since Vancouver.
The price on the Flames is very enticing today but I do expect it to be one of the better performances for Chicago. The Hawks are quickly making themselves irrelevant in the Western Conference playoff race. Every loss against a team in this race becomes a four point swing. This is what is at stake today for them once more.
Even with the days off and the Flames returning home from a four game trip, I have Calgary at 60% to win. The other night when I was on Chicago versus the Canucks they put up 50 shots on Vancouver and walked away without a goal. The Flames do not have the health-status or defensive numbers of Vancouver so it ultimately could be a very high-scoring affair.
So I am still undecided on a total for this game. With a 6.5 by the NHL odds the Flames high scoring affairs recently and a Hawks team desperate to get back in the race it’s a tricky position.
