Sports handicapper Ian Cameron provides a look at NHL futures market for the Atlantic and Metropolitan Divisions in the Eastern Conference for the upcoming 2016-2017 season.

Atlantic Division, Odds provided by Bookmaker and CRIS

Odds to Win 2017 Atlantic Division
Boston Bruins +1231
Buffalo Sabres +2628
Detroit Red Wings +1548
Florida Panthers +252
Montreal Canadiens +252
Ottawa Senators +3346
Tampa Bay Lightning +141
Toronto Maple Leafs +5000

The Tampa Bay Lightning are the clear-cut favorite NHL pick to win the Atlantic Division and I would agree with it. Florida has the improving young core to threaten for the division title and Montreal has the best goalie in the world in Carey Price who is now healthy once again but the fact remains that Tampa Bay is the best team out of any in this division and should be loaded for a Stanley Cup run this season and the Lightning organization should feel revitalized after captain Steven Stamkos thwarted all the rumors of him leaving by deciding to stay in Tampa Bay during the offseason and re-signing with the Bolts.

Metropolitan Division, Odds taken from Bookmaker and CRIS

Odds to Win 2017 Metropolitan Division
Carolina Hurricanes +10000
Columbus Blue Jackets +4000
New Jersey Devils +4019
New York Islanders +464
New York Rangers +855
Philadelphia Flyers +1089
Pittsburgh Penguins +190
Washington Capitals +123

Pittsburgh and Washington are the superior teams in this division but I think both could be threatened by a couple of under the radar teams that have a chance to take another step forward and challenge the division. Those teams are the NY Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers who both have solid young cores of players and key additions to both teams last season that helped them to their successes. The Isles and Flyers also have just enough veterans sprinkled in to give them a great mix of not only skill and speed but experience as well. Andrew Ladd and Jason Chimera were nice veteran additions by the Islanders in the offseason. No official recommendation from me here but I would prefer to look toward the Islanders or Flyers as a small bet to win this division rather than the Penguins or Capitals which are not providing much value at their current NHL odds.
