Sports handicapper Ian Cameron provides an NHL Early Lines Report for the hockey card taking place on Saturday, October 15. San Jose is the superior team but is it shown in this price across the hockey odds?

San Jose Sharks vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

There is a class difference between these two teams that isn’t fully reflected in this price. San Jose is the superior team by far with a tremendous amount of depth in their four forward lines and on defense. The Sharks had one of the best road records in the NHL last season, and have shown no qualms playing away from the Shark Tank and I expect them to have more success playing on the highway once again this season.

Columbus is coming off a demoralizing loss to open their season against an injury-depleted Boston Bruins team as they blew an early 2-0 lead and ended up on the wrong side of a 6-3 loss. The Blue Jackets once again gave up far too many scoring chances and shots allowing 37 shots on goal and their positioning defensively in their own zone were poor for most of the game and they couldn’t capitalize on enough of their scoring chances against a Bruins team dealing with injuries on the blue line to multiple starting defensemen including Adam McQuaid and Kevan Miller.

San Jose defeated Columbus 5-3 in their lone trip to Nationwide Arena last season and I expect another Sharks victory in Columbus on Saturday night with their moderate road chalk price being a more than reasonable one to lay with the vastly superior hockey team. I'll make San Jose my Play Of The Day in the NHL on Saturday.
