St. Louis Blues vs. Edmonton Oilers

We’ve already cashed twice this season with NHL Play Of The Day winners on the Edmonton Oilers and this undervalued squad is once again worth being the NHL pick on Thursday night as they entertain the St. Louis Blues.

The Edmonton Oilers are 3-1 to start the season registering a pair of wins against Calgary followed by a flat performance in a 6-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres but this team responded well to the harsh criticism following that loss from head coach Todd McLellan as Edmonton got back in the win column with a 3-2 triumph on Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Edmonton is going to be able to score goals on most nights but it will be their attention to detail defensively and their goaltending which will determine how improved this team will be in the long run. On the other side, the Blues lost their first game of the season in OT against the Vancouver Canucks in their last game snapping a 3 game winning streak to open the season.

St. Louis is dealing with some key injuries at the moment if Jaden Schwartz out along with Jori Lehtera who didn’t play in Vancouver. Carl Gunnarsson also missed their last game on the blue line due to an upper body injury and is no sure thing to return to the lineup for St. Louis for this game on Thursday night in Edmonton.

The Oilers and Blues split the two games played between them here in Edmonton last season but the game that Edmonton won 6-4 was the only game that the Blues current #1 netminder Jake Allen started for them against the Oilers and he had a rough night allowing 5 goals on 26 shots in the loss so the Oilers have not only have familiarity facing him but have also enjoyed success against him.

I think Edmonton is once again somewhat undervalued in this game making them worthy of endorsement as home underdogs. It is always good to check out SBR’s Sportsbook Rating Guide so that you know where the best places to bet are!
