NHL POW 2-1 67%

Detroit Red Wings vs. New York Rangers

The Detroit Red Wings got off the mat after two losses in Florida against the Panthers and Lightning to open the season as they rebounded strong and dominated the Ottawa Senators by a score of 5-1. Detroit got great contributions from everyone offensively and got a great performance in between the pipes from Petr Mrazek who dealt with plenty of ups and downs last season but still has the ability to be a very good goaltender at the NHL level.

Both teams are dealing with some injuries on the blue line but often times when teams lose a few games in a row and finally win one to break the slide, they tend to build on it and gain confidence and end up having another good performance the next game. I expect to see that from Detroit who will be catching the NY Rangers here in a potential flat spot after a 7-4 win against the defending Western Conference champion San Jose Sharks in what was a very poor showing by the Sharks particularly at the defensive end of the ice.

I still feel the New York Rangers are a bit of an overvalued team in the betting markets and in the long term may struggle to remain in the upper echelon of the Eastern Conference pecking order. I view Detroit as a live underdog and in my opinion, this game should be priced closer to even money than it is so I’ll back the Red Wings as my hockey pick and Play Of The Day on Wednesday.
