The Minnesota Wild can win because…
Anything can happen. When you look back to last year, not much was expected of the eighth-seeded Los Angeles Kings. Not only did they pull and 8-1 stunner in the first round, they went on to win the Stanley Cup.
If we’ve learned anything from the NHL over the last few seasons, it’s that parity is at an all-time high. Throw in the fact that this is a shortened season and anything can happen.

The Chicago Blackhawks can win because…
Not only are they the best team in the NHL, but the Wild are a mess. Put it this way, Minnesota needed a win in the final day of the regular season just to sneak in as an eight seed. As for the Blackhawks, they have the most points in the NHL.
The Wild have been awful in April as Saturday’s win was just their fifth. That means they enter the playoffs losers of nine of their last 14 games. Minnesota’s chances just don’t look good here on the NHL odds or in reality.
Outlook & Pick
The Blackhawks are the best team in the league. This isn’t just a team that was good this year, they were historically good. They collected 77 points in 48 games, which puts them on pace for 132 points in a full 82-game season. In case you are keeping track, the record for points in a season is 132.
On top of that, the Wild are a mess. They have been slumping down the stretch and struggling with their offense. That’s not ideal considering they are about to face the team who allowed the least goals in the NHL and scored the most.
There will be surprises in the first round of the NHL playoffs but this won’t be one of them. Add the Blackhawks to your NHL picks.
