Toronto and Columbus go at it in a NHL contest today, and are NHL betting odds guru supplies us with a revealing handicapping preview on this game. Read this insightful article that includes a free NHL pick on the money line.

Nationwide is on Jackets Side
The Blue Jackets will play host to the Maple Leafs today at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus with the opening face-off slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL odds at Bookmaker, both teams are -110 on the money line, and the posted total is 5.5. The Blue Jackets dominated the Maple Leafs a season ago by winning all 3-games, and outscoring Toronto by a wide margin of 13-3.

Low Scoring is the Flavor of the Day
Toronto comes off a 4-0 home win on Tuesday versus the Buffalo Sabres. The Leafs have now gone under the total in 5 of their last 6-games. That’s sequence of results followed the Leafs going over the total in their first 3-games of the season. There are definitely a couple of areas in which the Leafs need to clean up before entering tonight’s contest. Their power play has gone a dismal 1-for-20 during the past 5-games. Toronto will also need to focus on getting off to a better starts. They’ve been outscored 10-5 in the first period so far this season. Jonathan Bernier is slated as the probable starter in goal tonight for Toronto. Bernier is 2-4 in 6-starts with a respectable .910 save percentage.

Next Man Up
The Blue Jackets suffered a huge early blow when former Vezina Trophy winning goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky sustained a finger injury which will sideline him for an indefinite period. Backup Curtis McElhinney will be thrust into the role of having to carry the load in the interim. McElhinney is 0-2 in his starts so far this season with a poor .860 save percentage. Columbus will attempt to end a 3-game losing streak tonight that’s seen them be outscored 14-5 during that time. Columbus has allowed 4-golas or more in each of their last 4-games.

Final Analysis
As I alluded to earlier, the Maple Leafs are coming off of a home shutout win min their previous game. The annals of NHL betting history over the last 5-seasons indicates that when teams are in the exact situation as Toronto is today, it’s a favorable NHL money line betting situation. Any team that’s coming off a home shutout win, and is playing in the first half of their schedule, has gone 78-39 (66.7%) against the money line during the past 5-seasons. I’m going to be using the road team in this one for one of my NHL picks today.
