The New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings have now played unders in back-to-back games. Has the tide turned in this series in regards to totals and are we looking at a similar trend on the NHL odds for Game 5?

Game 5 Will Go Over Because…
The Kings will wake up. Through the first three games of the series, they scored at least three goals every time, and scored a total of 11. In Game 4, they scored just once, and that was with two pucks just barely stopping on the goal line. That’s not likely to happen again. If the Kings get their offense back on track, this game is going over. We’ve seen that – for the most part – the Rangers contribute at least a couple of goals too. That should help us get over the number in Game 5.

Game 5 Will Go Under Because…
Henrik Lundqvist is going to steal the show once more. We saw the same thing from the Rangers in their series against Pittsburgh in the second round. Lundqvist played poorly to start that series, but when the Rangers started to make their comeback, he allowed just three goals over the final three games. He stood on his head in Game 4, and he’ll be ready to do the same in Game 5.

The Rangers know they have to keep this low-scoring for them to have a chance. They can’t beat the Kings in shootouts, so look for them to try to dictate the pace again, and keep this within their range. That means 'under.'

Outlook & Pick
As far as totals go, the Rangers score way less at home than they do on the road. We’ve seen that all playoffs and we saw that in Games 3 and 4 where the Rangers managed just two goals in those contests compared to six in Games 1 and 2. That being the case, take the 'over' in Game 5 for your hockey pick, now that we’re back in Los Angeles.
