Our NHL consultant has identified a favorable situation on the total in today’s game between Philadelphia & Buffalo. His insightful article on this contest culminates with a succesful NHL totals betting system.
Hockey Night in Buffalo versus the Flyers
The Sabres will entertain the Flyers tonight at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo. The opening faceoff is slated for 7:05 PM ET. Our focus in this game will be on the total. According to the NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, the current posted total is 5.5. This will be the first meeting of the season between these Eastern Conference rivals. They met three times a season ago, and none of those games stayed under the total.
A Look at the Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers are coming off a 4-0 home loss at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks in their previous game. The Flyers have gone over the total in all seven games on the road this season after scoring one goal or less in their previous outing, and those contests averaged a combined 7.8 goals per game being scored. They’ve also gone over the number eight of nine times this year following a home loss. Defensive play hasn’t been the forte of the Flyers this season by any stretch of the imagination. They’ve allowed an unimpressive 3.3 goals per game. On a positive note, the Flyers power play units have been considerably productive this season by converting on 22.2% of their man advantage opportunities. They should be able to exploit the Sabres in that area today. Buffalo is allowing the opposition to convert on 24.8% of their power play chances.
The Buffalo Sabres have allowed a whopping 4.4 goals per outing during their previous seventeen games. They’re coming off a 7-0 shellacking at home versus the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. Buffalo has seen all five games go over the total this season after allowing six or more goals in their previous contest. Tonight will mark the third consecutive home game for the Sabres. Buffalo has gone over the number in all seven games this season following two consecutive home games.
NHL Totals Betting System
Buffalo enters tonight having lost their last nine games in a row. That losing streak has dropped their winning percentage to a dismal .311 after 45-games. The combination of these factors sets up a very favorable betting system that I’ll take advantage of when making my NHL picks for today.
Any team (Buffalo) playing in the 2nd half of the season, coming off seven or more losses in a row, and has a winning percentage of .300 to .400, has seen that team go over the total in 47 of those 67-games (70.1%) since 1996. Those contests averaged a combined 6.4 goals per game scored.
