That makes three straight days of winning NHL tips. Our units sit at a season high +16.19 units. Building with patience and discipline.  We've now have crushed 11 of our last 16 NHL predictions so let's start another winning month off by doing what we do best, finding a low-cost quality team which we've found in the Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers match-up

First, let's review my power ratings and why they are so important to cashing tickets.

We hear about handicappers using their power ratings to determine who they're are going to back but what do they really mean and which statistics are most important when determining a proper ranking.

On top of my list is still the defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins. How did I determine this? Well, the most important statistic that I use is shots on goal. If you listen to the 'Vegas Hockey Hotline Show' my co-host, Brian Blessing, says its the most overrated statistic besides plus/minus. That's one way to view it but what I know is the team that won the Cup last season led the league in shots on goal. I also know that the teams on the bottom of that list are not very good. To be good in this category also means that you carry the pace of play leading to more scoring chances. Pittsburgh not only leads in shots but they're 8th in scoring which tells you that they are not only getting the puck on net but a large percentage of those shots are high-quality scoring chances.

This doesn't hold true down the odds board as you also have to use your head a bit.

For instance, the Boston Bruins are second in shots on goal but I'm not ready to anoint them the second best team in the league. I save that for the San Jose Sharks who are 6th in shots on goal. Boston gets a lot of shots on goal but they're just 23rd in scoring meaning most of their chances are low-quality scoring chances.

Following the Sharks is the Nashville Predators who are only 11-8 on the season but are 7th in shots on goal but 6th in goals per game. This screams that you'll have a reasonable chance to cash tickets with them every night.

Remember, this isn't the only way to determine your personal power ranking because we have to factor in injuries, home ice advantage, and quality of special teams, but it's a start if you're starting out.

Unfortunately, Senators Goaltender, Craig Anderson, has taken a leave of absence to be there for his Wife who is battling throat Cancer.  Bettors have a tendency to overreact thinking it's going to create havoc in a locker room. I tend to go the other way thinking it brings teams together.
