Did we come up big with the Los Angeles Kings +109 last night or what? No one had the Kings as the betting public pounded the Pittsburgh Penguins from the opening bell. Not us! Tonight is a light schedule but it has provided us with an opportunity to bet our first 'total' of the year as the public is underestimating Montreal Canadiens netminder Al Montoya. The line clearly tells you that the boomakers are not as the number is set at five shaded -143 to the 'over'. Make sure to shop for the best line on this but so far we can get as high as +126 on the 'under' so let's grab it at one of these great SBR preferred books. http://www.sportsbookreview.com/betting-odds/nhl-hockey/totals/

Today also marks the day that I release my first official power ranking.  Why is that important to you besides daily betting, because betting futures is still a money making option that many forget about once the season starts.

The Washington Capitals are still listed at 10/1 to win the 2017 Stanley Cup in most spots.  That's great news for us because the Capitals are my number one team in my first power ranking.  If you're looking for some real value, I have the Ottawa Senators as number four but they are still being disrespected at 40/1.  This is just the first ranking but why not go and throw a couple dollars on a team that has started 7-3 and has solid goaltending when both Hammond and Anderson are available. If they can hold it together until Craig Anderson comes back they have a legitimate chance to cash a futures ticket.

Tonight we find a chance to crush another plus money ticket as the public has continued to support the 'over' in the Montreal Canadiens, Columbus Blue jackets match-up. First, Montreal is due to hit a wall and you may have witnessed the start of it in a 3-0 victory over Vancouver, a game they were grossly outplayed in despite the final score.  Had it not been for a spectacular effort from Carey Price they would have dropped this one.  At one point they were outshot 24-3.

You can bet that John Tortorella has made a note on how to slow down the undefeated Canadiens.  Al Montoya gets the start tonight for Montreal which may cause the Habs to play a more defensive minded game coupled that with the fact that I expect them to be conscience of the amount of shots allowed.  You can bet they will be making more of an effort to block more shots in front of Montoya.
