Los Angeles Kings vs Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs have notched a 3 game winning streak against Edmonton, Buffalo and Vancouver and will look to keep it going on Tuesday night as they host the Los Angeles Kings. The Leafs are playing with a better and more concerted effort defensively and #1 netminder Frederik Andersen is providing stability in between the pipes. He is playing much better as he starts to settle in after a rough start to the season which was negatively impacted by an injury that kept him out of training camp prior to the regular season. Toronto has an offense that is more than capable of scoring goals but it was taking time for them to grasp the nuances of playing well without the puck in their own zone but finally Mike Babcock’s system is starting to take effect as the Leafs have held on to 3rd Period leads in three consecutive games after having an extremely difficult time holding on to leads early in the campaign.

The Leafs have shown solid balance offensively with nine players having at least 6 points including 4 with double digits in points: Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, James Van Riemsdyk and William Nylander. That should prove to be a major test for LA backup goalie Peter Budaj who continues to hold down the net with Jonathan Quick injured and out for the foreseeable future. He’s had some good and some bad games but the LA Kings simply aren’t as good with him in net instead of Quick. LA’s offense hasn’t been quite as dynamic as Toronto with not a single Kings player into double figures in points so far this season and they have been shutout in each of their last two road games and the Kings have struggled away from home this season with a 1-4 road record and the only road win came in OT against an injury riddled Dallas Stars team while Toronto has a solid 4-1 record at home. This is a short price to lay with Toronto in a game I expect them to win.
