The Chicago Blackhawks return home to face the Dallas Stars tonight in the second of a back to back weekend series. Last night the Blackhawks handed the Stars a 3-2 loss at the American Airlines Center. Dallas led 2-1 after the first period but from there the Hawks dominated the Stars. The Blackhawks are starting to become a reliable penalty kill team again which means they are becoming an attractive option to back financially. Chicago has now won five straight and are 6-0-1 in their last seven.

We normally try to find games that aren't as high but options are limited today so it makes it increasingly important that you shop for the best lines on the SBR odds page. As you can see the line on the game ranges from -147 to -160.  We certainly don't want to be laying -160.

Let's give you an update on betting trends so far this season.

Home teams still hold are huge edge in winning percentage at 63.58% (110-54-90) but keep in mind that also includes large favorites so even though the winning percentage may be high the money won may not reflect that.  We want to keep our focus on games that are -150 and under.

Underdogs receiving +1.5 are still a solid play as they have cashed over 67% of the time but remember when you are receiving the +1.5 you're going to pay a high premium.  For example, Vancouver may be your best +1.5 option today but you have to lay -170 just to bet that.  My advice is to always stick with the side.

'Under' bettors are hold a 85-74 advanatge, good for a 53.46%.  All games today are shaded toward the 'over' so you'll be receiving plus money with your bets if you're a trend player.

Interesting that early money has come in on the Blackhawks considering the success the Stars have had at the United Center.  In their last three meetings in Chicago the Stars have outscored the hawks 16-7 while holding a three-game win streak. The good news for us is Chicago hasn't lost four in a row to an opponent since 1997.  I expected a little more Stars money considering most bettors like to bet the team that lost the night before thinking it will be a bounceback effort.

We don't have an official announcement on starting goaltenders but I expect it to be Kari Lehtonen for Dallas against Scott Darling for the Hawks. For my NHL Pick I'm going to back the team on a streak that seems to be getting better with each game for one unit.
