Monday’s a quiet day in the NHL with just two games on the schedule. We’ve got both of them previewed for you here with some analysis and picks on both.

Anaheim Ducks vs. New York Rangers

The Ducks and Rangers both come into Monday’s game with some momentum. The Ducks have played well all season long (winning 11 of 15 games) while the Rangers have played well since returning home (they’ve won four of five).

Home-ice advantage has proven to be quite important for the Rangers as they are allowing 3.50 goals per game on the road (fifth-worst in the NHL) compared to 1.00 goals per game at home (best in the NHL).

I expect to see a low-scoring affair in this one as both teams rely on elite goaltenders. We’re dealing with a low number on the NHL odds (5.0) but we’re getting plus-money on the NHL odds, so that’s why I’ll add the under to my NHL picks.

Detroit Red Wings vs. Winnipeg Jets

It’s hard to genuinely add the Jets to your sports picks these days as they are simply a bad team. They are definitely more capable than their 5-8-2 record indicates but they simply have no confidence these days. They’ve lost three straight, six of seven and 10 of 13.

On the flip side, Detroit has won three straight and are laying about -125. Traditionally, the Red Wings don’t do very well on these Canadian road trips but so far, they have won all of their games (in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton). This will be their third game in four nights and their fourth game in six nights.

Detroit is the play that makes sense here, although I’m fairly wary given their scheduling situation. Make a small play on them as the Jets simply aren’t worth your money these days.
