For today's top NHL picks on the puck-line, this handicapper will focus on Anaheim Ducks vs. Winnipeg Jets, Detroit Red Wings vs. Carolina Hurricanes and San Jose Sharks vs. Edmonton Oilers.

Anaheim Ducks vs. Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets have started to roll recently as they’ve won four of their last five games. Some people might question this stretch as their four wins have come against laggards like Buffalo, Edmonton, Colorado and Columbus – four of the worst teams in the NHL. However, they might catch a break on Sunday when the Ducks could be without leading scorer Corey Perry. He missed five games last month and the team went 1-0-4.

We don’t have a line here but the game should be close to a PICK, so I’ll take a shot with the Ducks. They’ve won three straight and are playing well. Even without Perry, they should have a decent chance to edge out the Jets.

Detroit Red Wings vs. Carolina Hurricanes

NHL Odds: Red Wings -130

The Red Wings have been one of the hotter teams in the NHL of late as they entered Saturday having won seven of their last nine games. The reason for their stellar play has been their offense as it’s been cooking. Detroit has scored at least three goals in each of their last six contests. They shouldn’t have a problem keeping that up against a Hurricanes team that’s 10th in the NHL in goals allowed per game at 2.76. Carolina could have a tough time keeping up as goals have been hard to come by for them. They’ve scored just 14 goals in their last seven games. They have dropped eight of their last 11 games and haven’t really been competitive. For those reasons, take the Red Wings with your NHL picks here.

San Jose Sharks vs. Edmonton Oilers

NHL Odds: Sharks -155

What’s left to be said about the Edmonton Oilers that hasn’t already been said? The Oil Can has dropped 11 straight games and can’t seem to figure out how this whole hockey thing works anymore. In the month of November, they finished with the fewest goals per game at 1.93 and had allowed the third-most goals (3.29). When you’re failing at those two aspects of the game, you’re failing at home.

On Sunday, they’ll be home to the San Jose Sharks as the two teams begin a home-and-home series. Although Edmonton will be playing in front of their home audience, that might not be much of an advantage. The fans are quite frustrated with their team. Edmonton has won just four times in 14 home games.

As for the Sharks, they are doing the Alberta two-step after playing in Calgary on Saturday night. They have been playing well of late, so I’ll take a flier with them on the puck line here. Edmonton is just mailing it in these days.
