Our NHL analyst provides us with an intriguing look at conference futures odds in this betting article. Who are the favorites, undervalued teams,  overvalued clubs at this juncture? Go inside to find out.

I’m going to touch upon updated (Jan. 25) NHL futures odds in both the Western and Eastern Conferences. All the NHL betting odds in this article are provided by TheGreek.com.

Eastern Conference True Value
Washington Capitals (+190)
Washington is unequivocally paying the best hockey in the NHL right now. At the time of this writing, they possess a superb 7-2-1 in their L10 record, and are in a the first place in the race to win the Eastern Conference. They are deep at the forward position, and Braden Holtby is turning out to be a world class goaltender.

Best Betting Value in the East
Boston Bruins (+1000)
The Bruins lost their first three games of the season, and were outscored by a cumulative margin of 14-7. For their L10, they’ve gone 5-4-1. Tuukka Rask couldn’t stop a beach ball to begin the year, but he’s been sizzling hot over the past weeks. The power play unit is #1 in the NHL converting on a tremendous 28.9% of their man advantage opportunities. You might be best suited to use the Bruins for one of your early NHL picks in regards to a futures wager. I don't forsee their odds to go up any time soon, and if anything will drastically come down in upcoming weeks.

Best Of The Rest
Tampa Bay Lightning (+650)
I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Lightning make a strong second half push. This is a near identical roster that lost to Chicago in six games during last season’s Stanley Cup Final.

Florida Panthers (+600)
The Panthers are one of those under the radar teams that don’t garner a lot of attention because of the market (South Florida) they play in. They stand with a 6-3-1 record in their L10. Don’t look now, but Florida is already 4 points over the New York Rangers and in the #2 spot in the Eastern Conference.

Overvalued

  • New York Rangers (+1100)
  • Montreal Canadiens (+1100)
  • Pittsburgh Penguins (+1100)

Western Conference True Values

  • Dallas Stars (+500)
  • Los Angeles Kings (+450)
  • Chicago Blackhawks (+325)

As of January, 2016, I have all three of these teams ranked about even in terms of who currently is best in the Western Conference. Each club possesses its own unique qualities, which makes them a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. There’s still a lot of hockey yet to be played, but it wouldn’t shock me in the least to see all three of these teams be part of a Western Conference Semifinal series in May. Stay tuned for my next update on this subject.

Best Betting Value
Minnesota Wild (+1100)
The Wild has a vastly underrated goaltender in Devan Dubnyk. The former Edmonton Oiler and Arizona Coyote is capable of carrying his much better than average team a long way come postseason time. You can make a strong case at this juncture that Minnesota has the best quality depth on defense than any other team in the Western Conference.

Overvalued

  • Anaheim Ducks (+1100)
  • Nashville Predators (+1250)
  • St. Louis Blues (+650)
