Dana Lane continues his review of the NHL odds with a betting preview of Arizona vs Calgary, on tonight's slate. Read why Calgary at -138 is the play tonight on a light NHL betting schedule.

2016-2017 NHL Selection Record: 19-15   .559   +12.51 units

Our readers cashed another ticket Tuesday night as the Winnipeg Jets were easy 4-0, +114 winners, over Chicago.  Our NHL betting tips have produced nicely so far but our real goal is to go on an extended winning streak and push over bankroll over 20 units.

Small schedule but it does offer another opening line that leaves me scratching my head because at first glance the Calgary Flames don't have any business being -138 favorites over anyone but sometimes you have to trust the bookmakers who are obviously giving their opinion on this one.

Get our NHL game pick later but as we look through the list of SBR approved sportsbooks, something popped up as an attractive betting option at SportsInteraction.  If you don't think bookmakers don't watch enough hockey to put up sharp numbers on NHL 'Totals' imagine how little they watch the American Hockey League. SportsInteraction is just throwing a 5.5 up on every game and there are sure to be soft numbers.  Do your research because there could be a gold mine waiting for you betting minor league hockey.

On to our game, Calgary is coming off of their most impressive victory over  Minnesota Tuesday night as Chad Johnson made 27 saves en route to his fifth career shutout. The Flames will be tested after their road victory as they must make a quick trip home to take on the Coyotes.

The Coyotes haven't played since a 2-1 loss to the Boston Bruins last Saturday.  Bettors may look at this as an opportunity to jump on Arizona because they believe that they must be rested but typically its the rested team that takes some time to get their legs. Flames Head Coach Glen Gulutzan hasn't made a decision on which goaltender will start tonight but the line indicates that it may be Brian Elliot.

On defense, the Flames have been a little better than Arizona and certainly have  more experienced corp.

You may want to wait for the number to come down a bit which has the chance of doing because the public likes to back teams with key starting players returning and with goaltender Mike Smith and Martin Hanzal possibly coming back the Coyotes certainly should see a late push.

I like the new defensive pairing that Gulutzan hs assembled as Mark Giordano is being paired with Dougie Hamilton while putting TJ Brodie with Dennis Wideman. These seem to be better combinations.
