It's not the time to blow a large percentage of our winnings on the All-Star Game but we can put a little aside to have some fun. Champion Handicapper Dana Lane explains how to attack the All-Star weekend.

I have to admit that I expected more, I expected more NHL All-Star Game props. I went through the usually SBR approved sportsbooks to find some individual ASG props and there was very little to be had.  They may put them up later but obviously that won't be enough time for all our readers to get the picks and make a bet. That brings us to betting the actual ASG. This is meant to be a fun event and it should be viewed as such. This is not the time to dive into your bankroll to make a significant bet.  You may notice that the title around my selection is called "unofficial". That's because this is not an official play. Let's just put some milk money on the Central to win this tomorrow and enjoy the event.

So why the Central? Why not? The handicapping really isn't that in-depth. I start by automatically throwing out the favorite which is the Metro Division.  I suppose any division with Penguins should be the favorite. If I'm going to bet this game I want a little more back than favorite money.

The Central Division consist of four Blackhawks, Jonathan Toews, Corey Crawford, Patrick Kane, and Duncan Keith. Their teammates are Patrik Laine from the Winnipeg Jets, Nathan MacKinnon (Avalanche), Tyler Seguin (Dallas), Vladimir Tarasenko (St. Louis), Ryan Suter and Devan Dubnyk (Minnesota), and P.K. Subban (Nashville) who will serve as the captain.

I suppose I'm looking for the team that no expects to win but still has plenty of firepower. The trio of Blackhawks are arguably not even the best threesome on their team which is a plus because if I'm Keith, Toews, and Kane that gives me something to prove. I also like their familiarity with each other if they find themselves on the ice at the same time.  There isn't another trio that has had the time to practice three on three, in a game setting, more than the reps from Chicago. They'll be supported by Laine and Tarasenko who are two of the top ten goal scorers in the league. One element that may be overlooked is how good Toews is on face-offs. Not as big of a deal as a regular season game but you still have to consider puck possession and that starts with winning some draws.

It's difficult to breakdown a event like this, unless you had three Los Angeles Kings involved then it would be a no-brainer, but let's take a small, unofficial chance with the team that has the most experience playing together.
