The Public is all over the Senators in the second of a back to back with Montreal but Champion Handicapper Dana Lane assures his followers that the Canadiens are the right side.

Ottawa Senators vs Montreal Canadiens

This is a classic case of the public jumping on a decent team in the second of a back to back situation, this with the Atlantic Division on the line.  In most cases, this is nothing more than a blind play because Montreal won last night in Ottawa, 4-3 in a shootout.  The Habs now have a two point lead with the Sens owning a game in hand. It's safe to think that Montreal won't lay down in this one because with a win they will give themselves enough room in the division to overcome the Sens game in hand.

In any game that features two good squads you first want to examine the goaltending match-up when starting the handicapping process.

Tonight Craig Anderson (21-8-2, .929, 2.25 GA) will most likely face Carey Price (32-17-5, .922, 2.28 GA) Anderson has had a much better year on the ice than off, in fact, his numbers stack up nicely against Price who’s many have said is the best netminder in the world.  The only difference is a big game experience. Anderson has played 23 fewer games than Carey this season plus let’s remember that Anderson’s average win percentage over the last three seasons is just 47.30% compare that to Carey who is over 64%, I’m not ready to give my support to Anderson or the Senators until they have a little more big stage seasoning.

Why is goaltending so important to Ottawa, because they have struggled to create offense?  The Senators are just 19th in goals per game. Offense gets a little tougher with Mark Stone out of the Ottawa lineup.

The Canadiens got heavier at the trade deadline which will be a big advantage tonight as Montreal has a goaltending edge and perhaps a physical and stamina edge.
