Our NHL consultant shares his top NHL total selection on Monday’s card based on two very profitable betting systems pertaining to this total: Edmonton Oilers vs. San Jose Sharks.

NHL Clash in the Pacific
The San Jose Sharks will host the Edmonton Oilers tonight in a Pacific Division battle at 10:35 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, San Jose is a mammoth -270 money line favorite, and the current posted total is 5.5. These teams have met three times this season, and San Jose has gone 2-1 in those confrontations. Two of those three games went over the total.

The Skinny on Both Teams
The Edmonton Oilers have converted on just 13.3% of their power play chances this season. The San Jose Sharks have gone under the total in 18 of their 26-games the past two seasons when facing an opponent which has been successful on 14.5% or less of their man advantage opportunities. This will be just the fourth game in the last fourteen days for the Oilers. Edmonton has gone under the total eight of ten times this season when playing their fourth game in the last seven days.

We share NHL picks for every match today, including Oilers vs. Sharks.

Betting System #1
The San Joe Sharks have a winning percentage of .540 this season, and the Edmonton Oilers possess a dismal .260 mark. The Sharks enter tonight having won their last three games in a row.

Any team (San Jose) that’s won two or more games in a row, and has a winning percentage of .510 to .600, versus an opponent with a winning percentage of .300 or less, has seen that team go under the total in 84 of those 129-games (65.1%) since 1996.

Betting System #2
The San Jose Sharks are coming off a 2-0 home win versus the Chicago Blackhawks in their previous game. This will also be the Sharks third game in the last five days. This sets up a straightforward and direct betting system on the total in this contest. I fully intend on utilizing that valuable handicapping tool when making one of my NHL picks for today.

Any home team (San Jose) with a total of 5.5, coming off a home win in which they shut out their opponent, and they’re playing their third game in the last five days, has seen that home team go under the total in 122 of those 184-games (66.3%) since 1996.

NHL Picks: Play on Edmonton and San Jose to go under the total of 5.5 at 5Dimes
