Our resident NHL handicapping professional shares his top three totals selections for Tuesday. Join us in reading this highly informative betting preview article that covers the games between Pittsburgh/Ottawa, Winnipeg/St. Louis, and Minnesota/Chicago.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Ottawa Senators 7:35 PM ET
According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, the posted total in this contest is 5.5. The Ottawa Senators have seen three of their previous four games go under the total. Andrew Hammond is slated to be in goal tonight versus Pittsburgh, and he’s compiled an outstanding .940 save percentage in his previous four starts.

Pittsburgh has seen just two of their previous ten games go over the total. The offensively talented Penguins have inexplicably averaged a paltry 1.7 goals per contest over their last twelve games. Pittsburgh enters Tuesday’s game on a three-game losing streak, and that sets up a very profitable NHL totals angle.

Any road team (Pittsburgh) with a total of 5.5, playing in the month of April, and has lost two or more games in a row, has seen that road team go under the total on fifteen of seventeen occasions (88.2%) during the past three seasons.

NHL Pick: Pittsburgh and Ottawa to go under the total of 5.5 at 5Dimes.

Winnipeg Jets vs. St. Louis Blues 8:05 PM ET
The NHL betting odds at Bookmaker indicate the posted total in this game to be 5.0. St. Louis is coming off a huge 2-1 road win on Sunday versus Central Division rival Chicago. The Winnipeg Jets are also coming off an extremely important 2-0 win at Minnesota last night. The combination of those two results qualifies for a very profitable NHL totals system which has passed the test of time with flying colors.

Any team (St. Louis) that’s coming off a road win versus a division opponent, versus a team (Winnipeg) which is coming off a win in which they shutout their opponent, has seen that team go under the total forty-seven of sixty-six times (71.2%) since 1996.

NHL Pick: Winnipeg and St. Louis to go under the total of 5.0 at Bookmaker

Minnesota Wild vs. Chicago Blackhawks 8:35 PM ET
According to the NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, the posted total in this game is 5.0. Winnipeg enters this Central Division encounter tonight versus Chicago coming off a 2-0 win at Minnesota last night.

Any road team (Minnesota) that’s coming off a loss in which they were shutout, and they’re facing an opponent (Chicago) from within their own division, has seen that road team go over the total on sixty-four of ninety-two occasions (69.6%) since 1996. Tonight, I'll back the over with my NHL picks.

NHL Pick:  Minnesota and Chicago to go over the total of 5.0 at Pinnacle
