Both the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers can’t seem to find their pre-Sochi magic. Both teams played great before the Olympic break but both teams have struggled coming out of it. They’ll get together at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.

The Toronto Maple Leafs Can Win Because…

The Rangers are getting pounded these days. If there’s one realm where the Rangers are supposed to have an edge in these matchups, it’s between the pipes. Henrik Lundqvist is supposed to give them the advantage. However, the Rangers have lost back-to-back games while giving up 10 goals in the process.

The Leafs have lost three straight but it’s not as if they’ve been blown out. Two of the games were overtime losses on the road and they’ve held leads in both of those contests. They are 9-3 on the season when revenging a home loss against an opponent and they’ll have a good shot to make that 10-3 on Wednesday.

The New York Rangers Can Win Because….

Toronto is really struggling. They’ve lost three straight since coming back from the break and they look disjointed. Their goaltending/defense is again a problem as they’ve given up 11 goals in three games.

The Rangers have lost two straight but that was to a pair of physical teams. In recent years, the Rangers have always had problems with teams like Philadelphia and Boston. Toronto is much softer and much more manageable, so that’s why you should lay the juice with your NHL picks.

Outlook & Pick

The Rangers dominate this series as they’ve won both meetings this season and six of the last seven. At this point, though, I can’t lay -160 with them on the NHL odds. It’s just too much. Instead, I’ll bank on the over as both teams have been very leaky at the defensive end.

Pick: Over 5.5 at Bovada
