A pair of Eastern Conference elites are set to battle on Wednesday night when the Toronto Maple Leafs travel to the Garden State to take on the streaking New Jersey Devils. Read on for our Leafs-Devils picks and predictions.

The Devils are perched atop the Metropolitan Division, just two points shy of the Boston Bruins for first place in the NHL. They're a runaway freight train on a 13-game winning streak.

Although not nearly as consistent or dynamic, the Maple Leafs are 6-1-3 over their past 10 games, including a 3-2 loss to the Devils on Nov. 17.

Will the Devils stretch their winning streak to a remarkable 14 games? Or can the Leafs upset the apple cart and start a winning run of their own?

Here are my NHL picks and predictions for Wednesday night’s game between the Maple Leafs and Devils (odds via FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook; Pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5 scale).

Maple Leafs vs. Devils Odds

Maple Leafs vs. Devils Odds Analysis

The Devils are hovering around a consensus -135 favorite. To juice the most value out of the Leafs, you can snag them at +115 through DraftKings Sportsbook.

The total is set at 6.5. If you’re backing the Under, the best bet is to snatch it up at -115 through DraftKings. Conversely, if you’re expecting a high-scoring game, the Over is -105 through DraftKings.

Maple Leafs vs. Devils ML Pick

Devils (-135) ★★★★

The Devils' scintillating start doesn’t seem to be a mirage. New Jersey is a top-five team in goals, goals surrendered, and Corsi For percentage. The Devils are also the league’s No. 1 team in expected goals for, expected goals against, and expected goals for percentage.

The Maple Leafs have yet to play up to the level their roster suggests, but they’re still a solid squad that could rise to the top of the Eastern Conference standings. However, they’re missing Morgan Rielly and T.J. Brodie on the back end, and their vaunted offense hasn’t hit its stride.

New Jersey emerged victorious in the last showdown between these two teams, and I expect more of the same on Wednesday night.

Maple Leafs vs. Devils O/U

Under 6.5 (-115) ★★★★

The Maple Leafs and Devils needed overtime to score five goals last week, so backing the Under isn't out of line despite the firepower on both sides.

The Devils and Maple Leafs are top-10 teams in goals surrendered, allowing 2.32 and 2.70 goals per game, respectively. They’ve both received solid goaltending recently, with New Jersey netminder Vitek Vanecek boasting a 2.14 goals-against average, .918 save percentage, and 3.35 goals saved above average. Meanwhile, Matt Murray has been excellent since returning from an injury, posting a sterling .933 save percentage over three starts.

Maple Leafs vs. Devils Prop Pick

Dougie Hamilton Over 3.5 Shots (+106) ★★★★

Hamilton is the straw that stirs the Devils’ drink from the blue line, with five goals and 14 points over 19 games in 2022-23. He’s also averaging 3.6 shots per game, and Hamilton has topped four-plus shots nine times this campaign.

The blue-liner should now get ample opportunities to put rubber on the net. He's facing a Maple Leafs squad with a depleted defensive corps that’s surrendered 33-plus shots in three of its past four games.
