After reloading on the heels of a terrible season in which they missed the playoffs, the early returns have been pretty disappointing for the Kings. Can they get their first win of the season tonight?

The Canucks split a home-and-home series with the Calgary Flames to open the season but could be forced to deal with some fatigue against the Kings on Tuesday after visiting the Anaheim Ducks on Monday night. It’s still early in the year but Vancouver played a very physical game against Anaheim and won’t have much time to recover ahead of what should be another physical contest against Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, the Kings are well rested and should be motivated following three days off since the loss to Arizona. They have to use the Canucks’ fatigue against them. It might be game three of the regular season but already this looks like a must-win for a Los Angeles team staring down a 0-3 start at home.

Projected Starting Goalies
Jonathan Quick should be back in goal for the Kings and he simply has to be better in order to give his team a chance every night. Los Angeles traded former backup Martin Jones feeling confident that Quick can carry the load but he hasn’t made the big saves when his team has needed them through the first two games. He has a lofty 4.50 GAA and an ugly .833 save percentage so far.

Meanwhile, the Canucks have used Ryan Miller in each of their first three games and could go back to him with Jacob Markstrom still recovering from injury. The other option is Richard Bachman, who has been on the bench serving as the backup to Miller since Markstrom was hurt.

What’s The Pick?
LA has been a letdown on the NHL odds as they followed up a 5-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks with a 4-1 loss to the Arizona Coyotes and there is already talk about how far this team has fallen since it won a Stanley Cup two years ago. While there aren’t many positives to take from getting outscored 9-2 in a pair of home losses to start the season, the Kings are home for their next three games as well and have a chance to get on track. Tonight’s date with the Vancouver Canucks looks like must-win territory.

They have too much talent to continue to play as terribly as they did in their first two games and there is no way they don’t come out with a much better effort. Look for Los Angeles to play a much more physical game as they attempt to bully a Vancouver side that played less than 24 hours before and try to wear them down. The Kings took three of five meetings against their Pacific division rivals last season and should be able to take their first meeting this year with an even bigger emphasis on finally getting in to the win column and avoiding an 0-3 hole at home to start the season. Take the Kings with your NHL picks.
