Our NHL analyst takes a look at today's game between the Blackhawks & Capitals. Join us in reading this insightful betting preview article which concludes with his NHL pick.

Hawks and Caps on Thursday Night
The Capitals host the Blackhawks in a game that matches teams that are each coming off shutout losses. The opening faceoff at the Verizon Center in Washington is slated for 7:05 PM ET. Washington won both of their meetings over Chicago last season, and has also taken four straight at home against the Blackhawks. These clubs have seen each of their previous three encounters all stay under the total.

Starting Goaltenders
Chicago is scheduled to go with backup Scott Darling between the pipes tonight. The usual #1 goaltender Cory Crawford will be given the night off after playing in Wednesday’s 3-0 loss at Philadelphia. Darling has made one start already this season and was outstanding, stopping 28 of 29 shots on goal during a 4-1 win last Saturday against the New York Islanders. Darling went 9-4 for Chicago last year with a sparkling 1.94 GAA and .936 save percentage.

Braden Holtby will look to get things turned around after a relatively poor start to the season. Holtby has gone 1-1 so far with a less than impressive .889 save percentage. On a positive note, he was 2-0 versus Chicago a season ago, and compiled a terrific .947 save percentage. Washington is hoping that Holtby regains the form he displayed last year. He was 40-21-10 during the 2014-2015 NHL regular season campaign with a sparkling 2.22 GAA, posted 9 shutouts, and had a solid .922 save percentage. He was even better than that in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs, evidenced by an extremely good .944 save percentage in 13 starts.

Final Thoughts
Chicago has gone 12-2 under the total on the road during the past two seasons when playing with no rest. They’ve also gone 28-8 under the total on the road the last two seasons when facing a non-conference opponent.

Washington will be playing their third consecutive game in a row on home ice. The Capitals are 13-3 under the total during the previous three seasons when playing in their third straight game at home.

I like the NHL odds on this game to be a low scoring affair, so for my NHL pick today i'm going Under.
