Our NHL betting odds guru previews tonight’s game between the NY Islanders vs. Anaheim Ducks. Read this revealing article in order to get the inside scoop on the specifics of this non-conference battle.

Isles Take on the Ducks
The Ducks will host the Islanders tonight at the Honda Center in Anaheim with the opening face-off slated for 10:35 PM ET. According to the NHL odds, the Ducks are a -193 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. The Ducks won both games versus the Islanders last season, and each of those games easily went over the total.

Fast Start comes to a Screeching Halt
The Islanders began the season by winning their first 4-games, and have since lost 5 of their last 7, including the last 3 in a row. The Isles have scored 4-goals or more in 5 of their 6-wins this season, and had just 7-goals combined in their 5-losses. The moral to the story, this team has been defensively challenged, and has a difficult time winning in low scoring games. The Islanders have allowed less than 3-goals just once in their first 11-games, and are giving up an average of 3.5 goals per contest.

Goaltending Issues in Anaheim
The Anaheim Ducks enter tonight having allowed 2-goals or less in 8 of their last 9-games. They’ve also seen their last 9-games all go under the total. However, their top goaltender Frederik Anderson is out for tonight’s game due to leg tightness, and backup John Gibson is on injured reserve with a lower body injury, things have suddenly become a bit uncertain in that regard. They will turn to Jason Lababera in tonight’s game. The 34-year old veteran started 5-games this season for the AHL Norfolk Admirals, compiling a 2.80 GAA, and a less than impressive .889 save percentage. He split his time last season in the between the Oklahoma City Barons (AHL), the Rockford Ice Dogs (AHL), and the Edmonton Oilers (7-games). He was in goal for the Ducks during their 3-2 win at Colorado on Monday, and stopped 16 of 18 Avalanche shots on net.

Final Analysis
This is a game I’m personally not going to use as one of my NHL picks. However, based strictly on an opinion only, my small lean is for this one to play on the high side of the number.
