History tells us that Montreal isn’t the place where the Islanders find success. In your NHL picks Monday, should you bet on the host Canadiens making that trend continue?

I’m taking a little longer on this one because we want to be sure we get another winner and tonight's NHL schedule is slim pickings. This game stood out and we have to lay a little juice to get on Montreal -- the Canadiens are -1.5 home favorites on the NHL odds board -- but history tells us that is the only side to take.

The Islanders have dropped seven of their last eight games in Montreal, and 19 of their last 28 there. This is New York’s first visit this season so perhaps this game will be different, but I have to see it before I believe the hex has been broken.

Both teams are in desperation mode, and both are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games. According to the SBR odds page many are jumping on the Islanders, so much of public wagering is based on perception after the team's 7-2 thrashing of the New York Rangers on Saturday.

Even though Montreal let its last game against the Boston Bruins slip away in a shootout, the Canadiens have earned points in their last three games (2-0-1), which makes their 4-5-1 L10 record look a little less abrasive.

Let’s not overreact to the injury to Montreal's Philip Danault. There isn’t a timetable for his return but count on Tomas Plekanec and Jonathan Drouin to fill that top-line center role. Jump on the Canadiens in your NHL picks tonight and cash that ticket.
