Coyotes and Sharks are two Western Conference teams that are struggling right now. Both dropped five of seven entering Saturday’s affair where the Sharks are a -170 favorite on the NHL odds.

The Arizona Coyotes Can Win Because…
The Sharks offense is laboring. They haven’t scored more than two goals in any of their last seven games and have totaled just 11 in that span. They’re really having a tough time lighting the lamp and in the game of hockey, scoring goals is apparently the key.

The Sharks are finally back at home after their grueling road trips but the truth is they haven’t been a great home team so far this season. They’re just 2-4 at home and are coming off a demoralizing 3-2 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers. If the Panthers can win at the Shark Tank, pretty much anyone can.

Although goaltender Mike Smith has struggled this season, he’s played well against the Sharks in his career. He’s 7-1-2 with a 1.46 GAA in his last 10 against San Jose. That’s a good reason why the Coyotes offer some value on the NHL odds market.

The San Jose Sharks Can Win Because…
They’re finally back home. The Sharks have had a ridiculous schedule to start the season as 16 of their first 22 games were on the road. Now things settle down for a little bit as their next five games – and 10 of their last 12 are all at home. The Sharks did ok treading water on the road (8-6-2) but this team definitely needs their home-ice advantage. They’re just 2-3-1 at home this season but last year, they had the best home record in the Western Conference at 29-7-5.

The Sharks dominate this series at home as they’ve won 17 of the last 25 times Arizona has visited the Shark Tank. Saturday’s affair should be easier than some of the previous ones as the Coyotes are really struggling between the pipes. Mike Smith is just 4-10-1 with a 3.30 GAA this season and he’s winless in his last five starts overall. On top of that, the Coyotes are scoring just 2.40 goals per game, which is among the worst in the NHL. In other words, the Coyotes aren’t doing much of anything right and now they’re on the road where they’ve lost seven of 11. It’s a tough spot to trust the Coyotes here.

This looks like a Sharks win through and through, even though both teams have been struggling. The Sharks are at home and they have the better goaltending. That should make the difference. It’s a tight spot to make this NHL pick here because the Sharks don’t often win by two but I’m not interested in laying all of this juice – especially not after watching the Sharks lose at home as -175 favorite on Thursday night. Instead, lay the puck line as the Sharks should win and we’ll see if they can cover the two goals for us.
