NHL Picks: Ducks -150 & -1.5 (+200)
Best Line Offered: at 5Dimes

Anaheim Ducks (29-19-8)
Anaheim Ducks are riding a three-game winning streak into Thursday’s clash with the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena. They beat Chicago 3-2 in overtime on Saturday, Calgary 6-4 on Monday and Edmonton 5-3 on Tuesday. They’ll be looking to improve to four straight at the expense of their Canadian hosts tonight and wrap up a four-game road trek in perfect fashion. It appears the market expects as much.

As it is, the Ducks are matched as the road favorites across the board. Pinnacle Sports opened with the Ducks as the -145 road faves to win straight up, as did 5Dimes, BetCris and Justbet. The Greek, meanwhile, is trading a Ducks win at -140 while Heritage is trading a Ducks win at -136 which is the best price in current markets.

The Ducks are 16-8-4 at home and 13-11-4 on the road, second overall in the Pacific Division. Curiously, they’ve been outscored 137-136 for a negative 1-goal differential.

They are 8-1-1 in their last ten overall games and they’ve won seven of their last ten road games. It’s worth noting that during that run of road form they did lose 2-1 to Vancouver in a shootout on January 1.

Vancouver Canucks (22-22-12)
Vancouver Canucks slim playoff hopes are on the line. They are fifth in the Pacific division with a so-so 22-22-12 mark on the season and 56 points, six-points adrift of the nearest wild card spot currently occupied by Nashville (26-21-10 and 62 points). The premium on the win here couldn’t be any greater, but with the Ducks riding momentum into this game the NHL odds are stacked heavily against the hosts.

As it is, the Canucks are significantly disadvantage on the NHL odds board as the +125 underdogs almost unanimously. The game is nestled on a 1.5-point puck line with Vancouver trading at +1.5 with a high of -250 money line odds attached.  Totals are set to 5 with the OVER favored at -140 and the UNDER trading at +120 NHL odds.

Most recently, the Canucks have lost back-to-back games – to Toronto and Minnesota, both by a score of 5-2. Their form in the last ten makes for even worse reading: 3-5-2. That and home form is nothing to write home about with a 9-12-5 record, which includes a five-game losing streak going into Thursday’s clash and outscored 22-11.

Betting Verdict
It comes as no surprise that the Anaheim Ducks are favored on the road when they take on the hapless and struggling Vancouver Canucks and, in all likelihood, they are the smart NHL pick to win straight up. However, the value NHL pick is on the puck line with the Ducks to cover as the -1.5 road faves at +215. In the last two games the Canucks were outscored 10-4 by a pair that is ranked lower in the league and is struggling just as badly if not worse.
