The Kings and Sharks will meet tonight as part of the NHL Stadium Series. We’ll break down the handicapping specifics on each of these teams, and conclude our article with a money line selection for this contest.
California Style Outdoor Hockey
The San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings will meet tonight at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California at 10:05 PM ET. The game will be televised nationally in the United States by the NBC Sports Network. According to the NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, the Kings are a -110 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. Tonight will be the fourth meeting of the season between these Pacific Division rivals, and the Sharks have won two of the first three. Those contests also resulted in two of the three staying under the total.
Kings rounding back into Championship Form
After enduring an inconsistent first half of the season, the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings enter tonight having won six consecutive games in a row. During the recent winning streak, the Kings have outscored the opposition by a cumulative score of 23-12, and scored three goals or more in each of those six contests. Quick is showing signs of returning to his customary dominant form. The Kings star goaltender has compiled a sparkling .957 save percentage in his last three starts.
The San Jose Sharks enter tonight’s contest having lost seven of their previous ten games. The Sharks haven’t seen any of their previous eight games stay under the total, and have played on the low side of the number in just two of their last fifteen contests. San Jose has allowed four goals or more in five of their last seven outings. On a positive note, they’re coming off a 5-2 road win at Dallas on Thursday. The bad news is, they’ve gone 4-11 this season following a road win.
When the Kings have been backed up against the wall in recent seasons, they’ve displayed an innate ability to emphatically respond. Hence, their current six game winning streak which has enabled them to close within two points of San Jose and Calgary for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. Does anyone truly believe the Kings won’t make the playoffs at this juncture? Contrarily, San Jose has played their way into playoff jeopardy over the past few weeks. I’ll side with the team riding the momentum right now for one of my NHL picks on Saturday.
NHL Pick: Kings -110 on the money line over the Sharks at Pinnacle.
