It’s a brand new week for NHL wagering and we’re fully prepared to attack. Zoom in on the battle between the Los Angeles Kings and Columbus Blue Jackets as we share our NHL pick on the Money line.
Kings for a Night in Columbus
The Columbus Blue Jackets will host the Los Angeles Kings on Monday at 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds during the time of this writing, Los Angeles was a -130 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. These teams met once this season with Los Angeles skating away with a 5-2 home win, and that game easily went over the total of 5.0.
Any Time Now
The Los Angeles Kings are coming off a much needed 4-2 win at Tampa Bay in their previous game. It was just their 6th road win of the season, and ironically it came versus one of the best home teams (Tampa Bay, 22-6) in the NHL. The defending Stanley Cup champions can ill afford to rest on their laurels at this point. Despite their win in Tampa on Saturday, they’ve gone 4-12 against the money line over their last sixteen games. Kings fans have been used to their team coasting through the regular season, and then possessing the innate ability to turn on the proverbial switch come playoff time. However, if the season were to end today, the Kings wouldn’t be part of the playoff parade. They currently trail Calgary by 5-points for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. I look for the Kings to exhibit a real sense of urgency tonight, and the intensity of their play to be turned up a few notches in the upcoming weeks.
Strenuous Uphill Climb for Columbus
The Columbus Blue Jackets have built a bit of momentum after winning their previous two games, 4-1 at Ottawa on Saturday, and 7-1 on home ice versus the St. Louis Blues this past Friday. However, their playoff chances appear to be dim at this point. They trail the Boston Bruins by 14-points for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The task becomes even more daunting when considering they have four additional teams ahead of them besides Boston. After qualifying for the playoffs a season ago, and giving the Pittsburgh Penguins all they can handle in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals before bowing out in six games, categorizing this season as a disappointment thus far, would certainly be a vast understatement.
The Los Angeles Kings have been there and done that. They’ve experienced many bouts with adversity over the past three seasons, and their resiliency has always prevailed. I look for them to come up with an effort similar to the one they displayed in Tampa on Saturday. The nod goes to the defending Stanley Cup champions for one of my NHL picks on Monday.
