The Chicago Blackhawks host the Los Angeles Kings tonight at the Unite Center in Illinois, Chicago.

The Chicago Blackhawks have lost just once in regulation in their last 11 games but bettors know that this stat might be misleading. That’s because a 7-1-3 stretch is really just 7-4 to bettors and when you’re betting the Blackhawks, that’s not necessarily a profitable record – especially when you include losses of as a -200 and -180 favorite in that span.

On Monday, they’re a small -140 favorite at home over the Los Angeles Kings on the NHL odds board.

The Los Angeles Kings Can Win Because…

They’ve been the better team in the month of December. Los Angeles is 9-3 this month while the Blackhawks are 7-6. The Kings lost to the Blackhawks earlier this month with Ben Scrivens in net. However, they are 7-3 this season when revenging a loss to an opponent. There’s also a good chance the Kings turn to backup goaltender Martin Jones on Monday and he’s been lights out. He’s 8-1-0 with a 1.31 GAA and three shutouts this season.

A noticeable difference between these teams is how they play against elite teams. The Blackhawks are merely .500 (8-8) versus teams with a winning record while the Kings are 11-6 in that same scenario. That’s reason enough to take a shot with the Kings in this game as they are a sizable +125 road dog – even though they come into this matchup on a two-game losing streak.

The Chicago Blackhawks Can Win Because…

They’re in almost every contest. Sure, they’ve lost four games in their last 11 with three of them coming in overtime. Although bettors would be hoping for better results, the truth is that the Blackhawks give you a chance to win almost every night.

The difference between these two teams is offense. The Blackhawks are rolling as players like Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are red hot. Kane has a 14-game point streak going and has notched a point in 26 of the last 27 games. As for Toews, he has 13 points in his last 10 games.

Goaltender Antti Raanta has been fantastic in relief of Corey Crawford as he’s allowed two goals or less in 12 of his 14 games. The Kings have scored just three goals in their last two road games, including a 3-1 road loss in Chicago on December 15th. They score just 2.32 on the road, which is 21st in the NHL. That’s a good reason why you should bet against them with your NHL picks on Monday.

Outlook & Pick

Both teams are playing without their starting goaltenders as Corey Crawford and Jonathan Quick are out. However, both are thriving with backups as Antti Raanta and the tandem of Ben Scrivens and Martin Jones have been excellent.

The difference here is the offenses of both sides as the Blackhawks have the better of the two units – especially when they’re at home and the Kings are away. On top of that, they’ve won four straight at home in this series, so this looks like a good spot add them to your sports picks in this spot.
