The NHL begins its first full week of the season & we have seen some big scores and big blowouts already. Eventually the betting odds will make more sense and sports picks will sort themselves out.

Here are three games we have on tap to start your week for NHL picks.

Jets Keep Flying In Afternoon Action
Winnipeg begins a new campaign on the road with four games before playing home opener. They have started well at 2-0 with wins over Boston and New Jersey, outscoring them 9-3. The Jets have looked explosive and having +115 underdog betting odds, makes them an inviting choice. According to the team's official website, Ondrej Pavelec is the likely starting goaltender and would not be surprised if he has a good game.

The New York Islanders had a tough assignment in opening up with the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks in a home and home series, losing both contests. This will be the Islanders second contest at their new home at the Barclays Center and is going to take some time to get used to the surroundings and new ice, which I can see working against them for the first five games or so. Dating back to when the Jets were in Atlanta, this has been a series dominated by the visitor at 11-2 and Winnipeg has snapped up the last two on the road against the Isles and I'll say it moves to three straight.

Free Pick - Winnipeg wins

Red Lights Flashing with Lightning and Bruins
For too long, Boston's defense was built around defenseman Zdeno Chara, but his advancing age and diminishing skills are forcing the Bruins to build elsewhere. Charro was hurt in the preseason and is questionable to play this afternoon. Boston's goalie Tuukka Rask has again started weakly in goal and while not all his fault, he certainly is a big part for the 10 goals allowed. The Bruins are attempting to retool as opposed to rebuild after missing the playoffs last season and look very vulnerable on defense.

Tampa Bay is the defending East Conference champions and have already displayed in two victories their offensive depth in wins over Philadelphia (3-2) and at Buffalo (4-1). Though the TD Garden has been House of Horrors for the Lightning with 10 consecutive defeats, this is not the same Bruins team who would beat them up along the boards and Tampa Bay has the size and decisive speed edge to get around Boston defenders and beat Rask in goal. The Lightning were 14-5 OVER after two or more consecutive Under's since last season and I expect them and Boston to surpass the NHL odds of 5.5.

Free Pick - Play Over

Anaheim Enters Win Column with Victory over Vancouver
The Ducks conclude the Monday slate at home against Vancouver. The odds at Heritage have Anaheim as -165 money line favorites, after the 2-0 loss at San Jose. The Ducks are 8-2 against the Canucks the past couple years, including 4-1 on home ice. For the home opener, it will be emotional for Anaheim defenseman Kevin Bieksa, who was traded from Vancouver for a second-round pick in next year's draft and wore the Vancouver sweater for 597 games.  The Ducks will seek to get off to a much faster offense start and are 8-1 off a loss by two or more goals and are 28-8 at home versus Pacific Division foes.

Vancouver netminder Ryan Miller will make his third start of the season after facing Calgary twice. The Canucks were the aggressor in the road opener, winning 5-1, but did not match the same intensity in the 3-2 home setback three nights later. As mentioned, Vancouver has not performed well against Anaheim but last season was 25-12 after a loss. However, this NHL handicapper prefers the Ducks matchup style edges and call for them to win this division encounter.

Free Pick - Anaheim wins
