Tocchet has been the favorite for several months but the days of him trading at plus-money odds have ended as he's led the Canucks to a 40-17-7 record with 18 games to go. Vancouver notched just 38 wins in 2022-23.

Rick Tocchet (-300 via bet365)

Tocchet is now -300 or shorter across the board as he has been trading at minus money for well over a month now. 

Tocchet joined the Canucks halfway through the season last year and has guided the team to be the current top seed in the Western Conference after three years of falling short of postseason hockey. Vancouver has one of the top offenses in the league and has been excellent defensively.

Taking an embarrassing situation and turning it into the top Pacific team playing with no fear should see Tocchet claim this market.

There are paths for Tocchet to fall out of the favorite spot for this award, but with each passing win, they're slipping away.

Jack Adams Award odds 2024: Contender

Paul Maurice (+700 via FanDuel)

Maurice is in his second season as the Panthers' bench boss, having led the team to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2022-23. That may be why he's so far back of Tocchet on the oddsboard as the season winds down: the Panthers have done this before. 

The Panthers have improved on last season's win total by notching 43 wins in 63 games and are once again strong contenders in our Stanley Cup odds. But this award often goes to a coach who's turned their team around or done something historical, while Maurice has improved on an already good showing last year. A total collapse from Tocchet and the Canucks would probably be needed to get Maurice over the finish line and capture the award.

Jack Adams Award odds 2024: Long shot

Rick Bowness (+900 via FanDuel)

Like most NHL award plays at this point in the season, true long shots have more or less disappeared. With around 20 or fewer games remaining for most teams, this is as far down the board as we'd go, and Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness isn't far off our contender in terms of odds. 

The Jets are surging toward the finish line with seven wins in their last 10 games, and they now trail the Dallas Stars by just two points in the Central Division and the Canucks by four points for the top seed in the Western Conference -c and they have three games in hand on both squads. 

But Bowness is hurt by the same thing that's probably limiting Maurice in his quest to chase down Tocchett: the fact that the Jets have "been there, done that" in terms of regular-season results last season.

Like most NHL awards at this point in the season, the odds have moved to the point that it's a two or three-horse race heading into the final 20 games. Tocchett has been the favorite for the last couple of months but has now dropped to the range where wagering on him doesn't provide a great return. His -300 odds come with a 75.00% implied win probability and would net you a profit of $3.33 on a $10 wager. 

Most competitors have moved into a serious long-shot range with the season winding down. Maurice and Bowness have made late charges, leading their teams to excellent records and positions in the standings, and are the only two outside Tocchett regularly trading at less than +1000 odds.
