Coyotes Getting Routed On The Road
This will be the 4th game of a five game road trip for the Coyotes and so far in has not been a fun trip as they have allowed five goals in each game and have lost all three by at least three goals. The Coyotes have now lost six of their last seven games on the road and have allowed five goals in five of their 6 losses. This is a team that is not playing good hockey on the road. Their latest loss was a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Buffalo on Friday night. Scoring both goals for the Coyotes was Max Domi, which were his 9th and 10th goals of the year which leads the team and he also leads in points with 23.

Taking the loss in the game was Mike Smith, who has ow take the loss in all three road games of this trip so far, allowing 11 goals in the three games. He might have allowed more, but was pulled in the Detroit game after giving up three goals. Smith is now 10-9 on the year with a high 3.06 GAA. Should he get the start here he is 3-11 with a 2.82 GAA in his career vs the Hurricanes. Should it be Anders Lindback then he is 2-3 with a 3.24 GAA vs the Canes in his career. Arizona checks in at 12th in scoring 2.7 gpg) and 28th in power play conversions, while on defense they are 28th in goals allowed (3.1 gpg) and 12th in penalty kill.

Canes are Offensively & Defensively Challenged
Well from an efficiency standpoint anyway. The Carolina Hurricanes come into this game with an offensive efficiency ranking of 28th in the league, thanks to their shot percentage of just 6.64%. The come in ranked 28th in scoring (2.0 gpg), despite the fact that hey have taken the 7th most shots per game in the league. Prior to taking on the Canadiens on Saturday, they took on the New Jersey Devils and had 31 shots in the game, but could get just one goal past Keith Kinkaid.

Their defensive efficiency is not much better as they rank 24th in goals allowed (3.0 gpg), but first in shots allowed (25.4 spg). That makes them 29th in defensive efficiency (11.67%). Cam Ward has been part of the reason for that, but he will not get the start in this game as he is slated to face Montreal on Saturday, so it will be Eddie Lack in goal for the Habs and he has really been an issue in there for them. Lack comes in at 1-6 on the year with a 3.54 GAA and he is 1-3 but with a solid 0.99 GAA in his career vs the Coyotes.

Arizona is:
9-20 in their last 29 vs. a team with a losing record
7-20 in their last 27 vs. the Metropolitan

I have to go with the Canes in this one. Yes they have had their issues at both ends of the ice, but Arizona has given up five goals in each of their last three games and they have just been beaten easily on the road of late. Arizona just doesn’t have the defense right now to hold anyone down, even the offensively challenged Hurricanes. I look for the Hurricanes to bounce back with a strong win here and are siding with them as our NHL Picks.
