During the NBA All-Star Break, those making sports picks will focus their attention on NCAA Basketball & NHL. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll. (384-330 L131D)

NCAA Basketball: Clemson vs. Georgia Tech  7:00 ET  ESPNU
Clemson ranks dead last in scoring (62.6 PPG) and Georgia Tech is only nominally better at 14th (64.4) in the ACC, yet the NCAA Basketball odds release of 113.5 has been jacked to 116. Why the switch? If you take the road/home numbers, you find the Tigers average away total score is 118.2 and the Yellow Jackets come in at 127 playing at home. In ACC action, Clemson ends up at 117.5, while against Georgia Tech is at 127 on the dot.

At face value, the Tigers at 13-3 UNDER would seem like the right choice, yet in those contests the average total score closed at 121.6 points.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Play Over

NCAA Basketball: Kansas vs. West Virginia  9:00 ET  ESPN
Both these Big 12 teams are allowing less than 66 points a game yet the oddsmakers total is climbing  like the snow totals in Boston. This matchup started at 146 and is up to 147.5 as bettors are ignoring Kansas is averaging only 66.2 PPG away from Lawrence. However, what these sports bettors and college basketball handicappers are thinking is the West Virginia press is no longer as fearsome. Sure the Mountaineers will still force their fair share of turnovers, but in their last four conference clashes, Bob Huggins guys have given up 77.2 PPG. With the Jayhawks excellent ball movement, they should have a number of very good looks at the basket, all leading to a higher total.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Lean Over

Be sure to check out our NHL Picks of the Day, too!

NHL: Panthers vs. Senators 7:35 ET  FS-CR, RDS2
It is perplexing why Carolina would tumble from a +140 to +120 road underdog at Ottawa. The Hurricanes are just 8-22 on the road this season and 2-5 SU in their last seven tries on the ice. With goalie Anton Khudbobin and the Carolina defense shaky in their last two games (10 goals allowed), Cam Ward will be between the pipes and this is the most logical explanation to why the NHL odds changed with his sparkling 1.17 goals-against average in his last five matchups (4-1 SU) with Ottawa. In addition, it’s not like the Senators are unbeatable at home with 12-14 mark and they are 2-11 having won two of three.

NHL Pick: Slight lean Ottawa at 5Dimes

NHL: Red Wings vs. Flames  9:05 ET  NESN, SN-W
Calgary looks for their 11th win in 15 games Monday night when they host a sliding Boston Bruins team trying to avoid a season-worst fourth straight loss. With backup Karro Ramo in net for the Flames, it seems like an overreaction for those making NHL picks to move Calgary from -115 to +110. After rebounding from slow start, Boston has dropped three in a row and five of eight and in those losses surrendered 19 goals. The B’s do not fare well when the light is being lit with frequency and are  5-10 ATS after two straight games where seven or more total goals were scored the last three seasons.

NHL Pick: Slight lean Calgary
