Thursday’s round of NHL betting features a clash between Ottawa Senators and Vancouver Canucks with potential playoff implications. Here’s a breakdown complete with NHL picks.

Ottawa Senators
The Ottawa Senators are riding a four-game winning streak into Thursday’s clash with the Vancouver Canucks, topped up recently by a win over the Edmonton Oilers as the nominal road underdogs. They’ll be looking to continue their winning form with a fifth straight win in Vancouver and if the NHL odds were any indication they do have a glimmer of hope.

Oddsmakers have opened the NHL lines on this game with the Senators at the disadvantage, but still an attractive even money NHL pick at most sports betting outlets to win straight up. The puck line, however, is 1.5 with the Senators to the disadvantage.

Ottawa boast a 29-26-6 record on the season and 64 points, which puts them into fifth place in the Atlantic division and four points adrift of the nearest wildcard spot currently held by Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins take on the Bruins on Wednesday, a game the Senators will be hoping goes the way of the hosts.

In their last ten games, the Senators are a solid 6-4-0 and they improve to 17-10-4 at home and 12-16-2 on the road. Clearly, their road form still leaves much to be desired, but if they continue on the current momentum that stat could improve significantly.

The Senators reeled off three straight wins at home, beating Buffalo 2-1 in a shootout, Carolina 4-2 and Detroit in a 3-2 shootout. They took that solid form on the road to Edmonton on Tuesday and defeated the hosts 4-1.

Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks finally snapped the negative trend at home when they beat Colorado 5-1 at Rogers Arena on Sunday, but one win in their last seven home games is hardly anything to cheer about. Certainly, it’s not a clear-cut indication they are about to turn things around.

In spite of their poor form, oddsmakers fancy the Canucks at home. As it is, they are trading as high as -120 to win outright at Bookmaker, William Hill and BetCRIS. That does seem overly generous in lieu of anything tangible for NHL bettors to hang their hats on.

In their last ten, they are an awful 3-6-1, which includes a four-game losing streak to Toronto, Minnesota, Anaheim and Calgary, all by a score of 5-2 (in other words, they were blown out 20-8 in the four games preceding the 5-1 win over Colorado).

Overall, the Canucks are 23-24-12 on the season with 58 points, a mark on the season that includes a 10-13-7 mark at home and 13-11-7 on the road. They are fifth in the Pacific division and well outside of the playoff picture trailing the nearest wildcard spot by 8 points (currently occupied by Colorado). To say playoff hopes are fading fast is an understatement, but they do have three games in hand over Colorado which offers up a glimmer of hope for their shoddy chances.

NHL Betting Verdict
Perhaps, the convincing home win over Colorado, their playoff rivals, will be the catalyst for a turn around. Certainly, the Canucks have to win out as much as possible down the stretch if they’re to embark on a concentrated push for the playoffs. At this point in time, it’s only speculation, form doesn’t support it at all but we’re making the Canucks our choice NHL pick. The Canucks do have home advantage and they haven’t played since Sunday, which could give them an edge over the Senators, who only just played Edmonton on Tuesday. Best price currently trading is at Heritage, where the Canucks are -108 to win outright.
