Get ready for a solid NHL pick for this quiet Monday with only 2 games, as we focus on the Montreal Canadiens vs. Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers are a huge NHL betting dog against the red-hot Habs.

The Montreal Canadiens Can Win Because…
They have been unstoppable to start this season. The Canadiens have won seven of their first eight games and their only loss was when they were in a tough spot in Tampa Bay facing a quality Lightning team (last game of a four-game road trip). Other than that, the Habs have taken care of business in every other game. They’ve allowed a total of 15 goals in their seven wins and their offense has been killing it. They’ve scored at least three goals in five of their eight games while averaging 3.13 per game.

Goaltender Carey Price has been excellent as he’s gone 6-1-0 on the season with a 2.67 GAA and a .913 save percentage. When he’s on, the Habs are hard to beat and he comes into this game having given up four goals in his last three games (.957 save percentage).

The Oilers have had a good week but let’s be honest: beating up on teams from the former Southeast Division isn’t anything to brag about. Tampa Bay was in a tough spot up North on a Canadian road trip, Washington isn’t a great road team and Carolina is one of the worst teams in the NHL. The Habs are as good of a team as the Oilers have faced yet and they won’t match up well.

The Edmonton Oilers Can Win Because…
They’ve gotten back on track. Remember how everyone was writing off the Oilers in the early going? Well, turns out the season isn’t lost just yet. The Oil Can has bounced back this week in a big way with three straight wins over the Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes. Their offense has scored at least three goals in each outing and goaltender Ben Scrivens has given them a shot to win each and every night.

Interestingly enough, the Oilers have Price’s number as he’s just 1-5-1 against them for his career with a 3.71 GAA and a .857 save percentages. He’s lost all three of his starts in Edmonton. That means we might see Dustin Tokarski between the pipes but if Price is in net, that’s a good sign for the Oilers.

The Oilers are confident right now and you get a good price with them on the NHL betting odds. Take a shot with them.

Outlook & Pick
This is a tough game to handicap, but we still feel confident with our NHL picks. On the one hand, you have the Canadiens, who should win this game but they’re on the road, Price doesn’t fare well in Edmonton and you have to lay -145 with them. On the flip side, the Oilers were one of the worst teams in the NHL at the beginning of the week (0-4-1) but the perception has changed with three straight wins.

The Oilers are 12-4-3 in their last 19 in this series and if Price is in net, we’ll take a shot with them as a home dog. If it’s Tokarski, go with the under.
