The 'under' is 8-2-1 in the last 11 meetings between the Blues and Senators in Ottawa; will the streak continue when the puck drops at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday?

The Ottawa Senators will be a fresh team when they meet the St. Louis Blues tonight at the Canadian Tire Centre considering this will be their first game since handing Toronto a 4-3 loss on Jan. 10. Guy Boucher knows that this is the time the Sens must start making a move in the East if they’re to join the postseason party. They currently sit a distant 12 points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the last wild card spot and 15 behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for the 3rd spot in the Atlantic. Better focus on the wild card for now.

Aside from Bobby Ryan, the Senators will be at full strength. Ryan suffered a hand injury before the break, and it’s not clear when he’ll return. He hasn’t been ruled out of this game, but it doesn’t feel like he’ll be available. Top Blues forward Jaden Schwartz continues to rehab his ankle, but the team has received some good news when Schwartz skated after practice Monday. There is speculation that he could return before the end of the month. Tough on both teams to lose quality forwards like that, but the positive is we’ll be getting two teams who will be 100% on the defensive end. If the Senators can do their part and played with fresh legs and a sense of purpose, this will be an easy UNDER call, especially when you’re getting one of the league’s top defensive teams in the Blues.

The Senators will be getting a little more physical with the return of Mark Borowiecki, who hasn’t played since Nov. 19. You’re not going to expect any offense from him but his 6-foot-1, 216-pound frame will be a welcomed addition to the Senators blue line.

“I would love to (get a hit early), try to set a bit of energy in this building, but when you chase it, that’s when things don’t go your way,” he said. “You have to find your spot. It’s just a matter of making sure you’re in the right places and being able to make those hits if they do come.”

I don’t mean to be homiletic, but no matter how much I like this game you must search for the best number on this one because a quick glance to the SBR odds page will reveal that this number isn’t stable. The opening number was 5.5 -115 (UNDER), but was quickly bet down to -110 at 5Dimes and Heritage. Those are great numbers but if you have Bovada or Youwager, you’ll see that the UNDER was bet up to -120. The difference in these numbers is why I’m a little preachy on shopping for the line the benefits you the most.

This one is going to be a grinder.
