We’ve isolated 2 totals selections tonight as our “NHL Picks of the Day”. Read our informative NHL handicapping analysis in the games between the Ducks/Wild and Canadiens/Blackhawks in order to make yourself a winner today!

Anaheim Ducks vs. Minnesota Wild 8:05 PM ET
I’m going to be honing in on the total in this game. Minnesota has been considerably better offensively at home this season compared to on the road. The Minnesota Wild have averaged 3.4 goals and 34.2 shots on net in 11-games at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The Wild have also amassed 35-shots or more on goal in 4 of their last 5-games. They should have little trouble sustaining that kind of offensive pressure once again tonight versus an Anaheim team which has allowed opponents 34-shots or more on goal in each of their last 5-games.

The Anaheim Ducks have allowed an average of 3.5 goals per outing over their last 8-games. They’ve also averaged a robust 3.2 goals per game scored during their last 8-contests. After playing low scoring games from much of their early part of the schedule, the Ducks have seen just 3 of the last 11 stay under the number. The Ducks #1 goaltender Frederik Andersen is starting to show signs of wear and tear after starting 13 consecutive games in goal heading into tonight. He’s scheduled to be between the pipes again tonight. Andersen has allowed 16-goals in his last 4-starts, and has compiled a shaky .888 save percentage during that time.

Although a quick scan of both teams first quarter results will show a high percentage of games staying under the total, this contest tonight has all the ear marks of being quite the opposite. I like this Western Conference battle to play on the high side of the number, and that will be one of my NHL picks for today.

Montreal Canadiens vs. Chicago Blackhawks 8:35 PM ET
Chicago has seen just 6 of their first 25-games (24%) this season go over the total. The Hawks have allowed just 10-goals combined over their last 6-games.

The Montreal Canadiens have gone over the total in only 5 of their last 22-games overall, and that includes just 1 of the last 11 on the road. They’ve been in a bit of an offensive scoring drought of late, scoring only 15-goals combined over their last 8-games. The Canadiens enter tonight with a 17-10 (.630) money line record on the NHL odds this season and have gone just 2-4 in their last 6-games.

Any road team (Montreal) with a total of 5.0 or less, coming off losing 4 or 5 of their last 6-games, and has a money line winning percentage of .600 to .700 on the season, has seen 21 of those 26-games (80.8%) stay under the total during the past 5-seasons.
