Interesting night on the ice with just 5 games on the NHL card. 4 teams are laying juice in the neighborhood of -200, so we’ll try to find profit without being charged an arm & a leg to bet.

Ottawa Senators vs. New York Islanders
Odds: Islanders -200
The Islanders are laying a huge number in this spot but this looks like a bad line. Based on reputation, it makes sense. The Isles are fourth in the Eastern Conference and the Senators are 10th. There’s a 17-point difference in the standings between the teams. However, when you take a look at how both teams have been paying recently, you’ll discover that the Senators have actually been the better team. They’ve won nine of 11 with their goaltending leading the way. They’ve allowed just 20 goals in those 11 contests.

As for the Islanders, they’ve have been struggling a little bit lately as they’ve lost four of six. After starting the season 32-14-1, they are just a .500 team over their last 22 games (11-8-3). That being the case, I’ll take a flier on the Senators in this spot as a sizable dog. They should have a shot to win this game, add them to your NHL picks tonight.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
Odds:
Blue Jackets -200
The Blue Jackets are a fairly bad team but what does it say about the Oilers that the Blue Jackets are a -200 favorite in this game? That’s because Edmonton has been getting spanked left, right and center. They’ve lost six straight and given up 27 goals in the process. Even so, the Blue Jackets have lost eight of 12, so it’s tough to trust them in this spot as a big favorite.

Instead of picking sides in this one, I’m going to look for an over. Both teams have been giving up goals at an alarming rate. Edmonton has given up 3.35 goals per game since the All-Star break, which is the most in the NHL. The Blue Jackets haven’t been much better as they’re at 3.19, which is the fourth-worst in the league in that same span. And no team allows more at home than the Blue Jackets 3.39 and only one team allows more on the road than the Oilers 3.51. That being the case, I’ll take the over in this spot.

Anaheim Ducks vs. Minnesota Wild
Odds:
Wild -120
The Minnesota Wild continue to roll as they’ve now been one of the best teams in the NHL over the last couple of months, which is why they are NHL odds favorite tonight. While it might be hard to believe, the team that won just 20 of their first 46 games has now won 17 of their last 21.

The Ducks have hit a slump as they’ve lost three straight and scored just five goals in the process. Their goaltending continues to be leaky too as they’ve allowed 13 goals in those three contests.

The Ducks have won both of the previous meetings between the teams this season but the Wild were a different team in October and December. I’ll take the Wild with my NHL picks to win once and prevent the season sweep.
