With a big slate, let's get straight to the previews and picks for three of the games.
It’s an unusually busy Friday in the NHL with 10 games on tap. That’s actually more than we’ll see on Saturday (nine games).
I see the Capitals as having value on the NHL odds. You can get +120 with them and when you consider that Detroit has lost four straight – three of which were at home – then you see why it starts to make sense. Detroit is just 3-6 at home on the season. Although Washington isn’t a great road team, this game is more of a toss-up than the odds indicate.

Nashville Predators @ Pittsburgh Penguins
I’m going to add the Penguins -1.5 to my sports picks on Friday as this just looks like a complete mismatch. On one hand, you’ve Predators, who have been in a nosedive. They’ve lost three straight and five of seven. They’ve allowed an average of 4.5 goals per game in that span. Now they’ll face the Penguins, who normally might have overlooked Nashville, but enter on a three-game losing streak themselves. They’ll look to get back on track at the expense of the Predators. Take the Pens as they should be focused on Friday.

Philadephia Flyers @ Winnipeg Jets
How about we take a shot with Philly in our NHL picks? Sounds crazy? The Flyers have actually won three straight and might be on to something. One of those wins was a 2-1 squeaker over Pittsburgh, so we have to give them some credit. On the year, they’ve actually been a respectable 4-4 on the road.
Winnipeg has also won three straight and while that’s good, their wins have come against Nashville, San Jose and Detroit – three teams that are slumping. This game is a coin flip but I like Philly’s chances – especially since we’re getting plus-money.
