Sunday’s NHL card is a quiet one with just five games on the card. We’ve circled the three best ones for picks, so read on for our Sunday selections:
Florida Panthers vs. Chicago Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks have endured a pretty rough week as they’ve lost three in a row – if you can believe that. Two of those losses came at home as they fell to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday and the Anaheim Ducks on Friday. The main reasons for those losses has been goaltending and defense, as the Blackhawks had allowed just 10 goals in the six-game winning streak that preceded this current slump but have allowed 11 goals in their last three games.
I think they’ll get back on track on Sunday as they’ve had a lot of traveling recently. They had a six-game road trip, then came home, then visited Minnesota and came back home again. I don’t think it’s a coincidence their three losses came in a stretch where they played three games in four nights immediately after a six-game road trip.
I’m not going to lay the crazy number on the NHL odds but I’ll bet the under. The Blackhawks defense should get back to work and muzzle the hapless Panthers on Sunday, so I’ll add the under to my sports picks.

San Jose Sharks vs. Minnesota Wild
The Sharks have dropped two straight and losses came on the road. Their losses came on back-to-back nights on Thursday and Friday to Pittsburgh and Carolina. If they can lose in Carolina, they can definitely lose in Minnesota – especially playing their third game in four nights.
Josh Harding is expected to start in net for the Wild and he’s been virtually unbeatable at home. He’s 12-1-0 with a 1.27 GAA when playing in front of the home audience. That being the case and factoring that the Wild are a home underdog, I’ll add them to my NHL picks in this spot.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks continue to struggle at home. Although they won their most recent game at Rogers Arena on Friday night, they blew a 2-0 third period lead only to survive in overtime. That was just their fourth win in their last 12 home contests.
The Avs were the worst road team in the NHL last season but it’s a completely different story this time around. Entering Sunday, they are 10-3-0 on the road, which gives them one of the best road record in the NHL. The Canucks also play better on the road (10-5-2) and are just 6-5-3 at home.
Although Colorado struggles playing in Vancouver – they’ve lost eight straight there – the odds entice me to take a shot with them. This game should be a toss-up as the Canucks don’t have a great home-ice advantage and the Avs have played well on the road. That being the case, the +131 looks like a great add to my NHL picks for Sunday.
